Course Information

Sidemount diving, where scuba tanks are mounted alongside the diver, offers a unique approach to exploring the underwater world. This configuration provides enhanced flexibility, improved streamlining, and eases the physical burden of carrying heavy cylinders on your back. It’s an increasingly popular choice among divers seeking a different diving experience.

Why Choose Sidemount Diving?

  • Increased Comfort: Avoid the weight of tanks on your back, especially beneficial when entering the water from shore.
  • Better Streamlining: Achieve a more streamlined profile in the water, reducing drag and conserving energy.
  • Flexible Gas Management: Easily switch between gas sources when using multiple cylinders.

Course Eligibility

  • Any PADI Open Water Diver who is at least 15 years old is welcome to enroll in the PADI Sidemount Diver course.

What You Will Learn

  1. Equipment Configuration: Understand how to properly assemble and configure sidemount scuba diving equipment.
  2. Perfect Balance: Learn to trim your weight system and sidemount gear for optimal balance in the water.
  3. Gas Management: Master the techniques for managing gas by switching second stages, particularly when using two cylinders.
  4. Problem Management: Develop skills to respond effectively to potential problems unique to sidemount diving.

Course Structure

  • Duration: The course is conducted over 3 days.
  • Dive Requirement: Includes 4 dives, offering ample opportunity to practice and perfect sidemount diving skills.
  • Confined Water Dive: Begin with a confined water session to familiarize yourself with the sidemount equipment and basic skills.
  • Open Water Dives: Apply your skills in three open water dives, practicing equipment handling, buoyancy control, and gas management.

Advance Your Sidemount Skills

After completing this course, you can take your sidemount diving further with the PADI Tec Sidemount Diver Course. This advanced course introduces you to using stage tanks for decompression. To enroll, you need to be a certified PADI TecRec 45 & 50 Diver, allowing you to use advanced sidemount configurations.
